Here are the new features to expect with the Galaxy S23
Although the Samsung Galaxy S23s will be announced in a few days, they may come with One UI 5.1 version of Samsung’s new interface based on Android 13. The leak reveals the features that will be seen there.
A gradual tradition at Samsung is to introduce a new version of the One UI interface on the occasion of the launch of the latest Galaxy S. The Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Ultra will be no exception, as they will appear with One UI 5.1 at the Galaxy Unpacked conference this Wednesday, February 1 at 19:00. Checked the update WinFuture and Snoopy Tech on Twitter with a list of changes to the interface based on Android 13. A leak that will reveal all the details of the upcoming version of One UI.
One UI 5.1 is expected to arrive first on the Galaxy S23 before being available on other Samsung smartphones: the brand has confirmed that it can be used on flagship models released after the Galaxy S20.
Changes brought by One UI 5.1 (Android 13).
Camera
Thanks to the new button, we can change the color of the selfie more easily”Effects» located on the side of the screen. Expert RAW will now be easier to access fromAdvanced“. Recall that it allows you to save images in RAW format, that is, without processing or compression, for deeper editing.
Gallery
The first innovation is the arrival of a joint family album. Samsung’s Gallery app can recommend photos to add to it through facial recognition. Up to six people can be added to the shared family album, and each has 5 GB of storage.
Another change: automatic processing can now remove shadows and reflections from photos. In addition, we can automatically improve the definition of GIFs.
Viewing an image or video on the UI side of the app, you can swipe up to see “where and when the photo was taken, on which device and where it is stored“. The search tool allows you to find several people/objects at the same time: you can do it without entering a name, just by clicking on a face. The last innovation, you can change the destination folder for screenshots (same for video recordings).
AR Zone and AR Emoji
mode “Masklets you take pictures and videos of up to three people by replacing faces with emojis. Also, drawing and editing in AR Doodles is improved with more accessible brushes. Drawings can also be resized and moved after creation. Finally, the eraser tool can only erase part of the drawing.
widgets
New widgets are coming to One UI. The first is about the battery: it allows you to check the battery level of Galaxy devices such as Galaxy Buds, Galaxy Watch or S Pen. A feature found on iPhone and iPad for several years. The weather widget also has a style change.
You can also set different wallpapers on the lock screen and home screen depending on the activities: work, sports, etc. Finally, One UI 5.1 brings more settings and actions for scenarios, especially when airplane mode or contact sharing is enabled. Which apps open or adjust the sound balance, change the font style, change the ringtone, etc.
Connection
The Samsung Notes app sees the arrival of multi-person simultaneous collaboration. You can also more easily invite other people to albums, notes, calendars thanks to the creation of shareable links.
The Galaxy Book mouse, keyboard and touchpad can now be used on Galaxy smartphones and tablets compatible with this version of the interface. This allows you to copy and paste text or move documents. Samsung Internet Browser offers the continuation of viewing from a smartphone to a laptop. Finally, with Smart View, you can disable notifications when you show your Samsung phone’s screen on the TV: enough to avoid the inconvenience that happens all too often (and at the worst time). Additionally, we expect Samsung to announce the entire Galaxy Book 3 lineup during Galaxy Unpacked.
Multitasking
A UI 5.1 allows “minimize or maximize the program window without going through the settings menu“. The user can simply drag any corner of the associated pop-up window.
Also, in split screen “apps you use often appear below recently used apps to help you find them more quickly“, we learn in the leaked update document.
Samsung DeX
DeX mode also improves in One UI 5.1: in split-screen mode, you can drag the splitter in the center of the screen to resize two windows at once. The update also allows you to position the window in the corner, taking up a quarter of the screen, for example, in Windows.
Finally, if you want to listen to music on Wi-Fi-connected speakers via Spotify Connect or the integrated Chromecast, you can simply switch to multimedia output instead of going to the settings of music streaming apps.
