it will give Samsung a cold sweat

Officially announced in December, the OPPO Find N2 Flip is coming to Europe and its spec sheet is known. The Galaxy Z Flip4 competitor looks promising.

What if Samsung finally found someone to talk to in the world of foldable smartphones? The South Korean giant, which is very much alone in this segment, is desperately waiting for a strong competitor, and OPPO has understood this. The Chinese brand recently introduced two new foldable smartphones: Find N2 and Find N2 Flip. Unfortunately, it won’t come to France first and won’t try its luck against the Galaxy Z Fold4. On the other hand, OPPO will release the new Find N2 Flip outside of China. Good news for us, but not for the Galaxy Z Flip4, which has a lot to worry about.

When OPPO unveiled the Find N2 Flip in December, it didn’t say everything. The manufacturer was content to mention features close to Find N2, except for the SoC. Instead of Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, the Find N2 Flip packs a MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ SoC. Leaker SnoopyTech goes further by sharing the entire technical report of the device.

The first confirmation is that the flip smartphone will have the Dimensity 9000+ chip. MediaTek’s SoC (8 cores up to 3.2GHz) doesn’t have much to envy the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 in terms of pure performance. In addition, the Find N2 Flip has 8-16 GB of RAM (LPPDR5) and 256 GB of storage.

Another element to follow is the 4300 mAh battery with 44 W fast charging, which is almost the same as in the classic smartphone. By comparison, the Galaxy Z Flip4 is limited to a 3,700mAh battery with 25W charging. We’ll have to wait for the first tests to get a better idea, but the difference is significant on paper.

Data sheet available

This spec sheet leak also hints at the photo configuration of the Find N2 Flip. It will have a 50 Mpx Sony IMX890 primary sensor accompanied by an 8 Mpx (IMX355) ultra-wide-angle and a 32 Mpx (IMX709) selfie camera. Still for comparison, the Galaxy Z Flip4 offers dual 12MP sensors (wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle) and a 10MP module on the front.

On the display side, the Find N2 Flip will also differ from its upcoming competitor. It offers a 6.8-inch AMOLED primary display that displays Full HD+ resolution (2520 x 1080 pixels) at 120 Hz. This panel is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. A second, external, 3.26-inch (720 x 382 pixels, 60 Hz) is also available and protected by the same glass. The Z Flip4’s secondary screen (1.9 inches) is much larger, which helps you display more information and take selfies. When it comes to folding, OPPO uses a different technique than Samsung to fold the screen more discreetly. The South Korean manufacturer should use the same procedure in the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5.

Finally, the kit will measure 160.6 x 75.2 x 7.85 mm for 191 grams.

Presentation at MWC?

It is important for OPPO to quickly position itself in this segment. The Chinese brand appears to be the best-armed outsider to disrupt Samsung’s plans with the “Z” series. Although the Korean brand will not renew its fleet before the summer of 2023, OPPO can take a chance on the Old Continent without delaying too much. The Find N2 Flip is rumored to arrive in Europe (and the rest of the world) during MWC.

The meeting is important and OPPO will be interested in putting pressure on the world number one. The latter is the best armed because of its position and reputation.

In addition to features, price and software will also play an important role. If Google decides to launch the Pixel Fold, 2023 could be interesting in the folding segment. For its part, OPPO is also working on the arrival of the Find X6 series.
