Samsung Galaxy S22 vs S22 Ultra: Differences Compared

On February 9, Samsung announced its new Galaxy S series flagships, the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra, and launched them on February 25.

So which of these three devices is right for you? We’ve compared the specs of the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra to help you understand what the differences are and how they compare to each other.

Design

The Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus are identical except for their physical dimensions, while the S22 Ultra has minor design differences from its two siblings.

All three devices have a center punch-hole camera above the screen, but the S22 and S22+ have a triple rear camera body that matches the color of the back of the device, while the S22 Ultra has a quad rear camera and the lenses are on the back of the device rather than in the box.

The S22 Ultra also offers an S Pen stylus built into its design, just like the previously offered Galaxy Note series.

The S22 and S22+ are available in white, pink, phantom green and black. The S22 Ultra is available in black, green, burgundy and white.

Waterproofing – IP68 to be exact – is included in all three models, and all three models offer a glass back.

Screen

• S22: 6.1 inches, Full HD+, flat, 10-120Hz refresh rate

The Samsung Galaxy S22 has a 6.1-inch Full HD+ display, while the S22+ has a 6.6-inch Full HD+ display.

Their screens are flat and they offer HDR10+ support as well as refresh rates that range between 10Hz and 120Hz.

The S22 Ultra, meanwhile, has a 6.81-inch display with Quad HD+ resolution, making it the largest and sharpest of the three devices. It’s also not flat, slightly curved at the edges, but it supports HDR10+ like the S22 and S22+. It also offers a variable refresh rate, albeit between 1Hz and 120Hz.

All three devices offer under-display fingerprint sensors, and all come with a feature called Eye Comfort Shield, which controls blue light based on artificial intelligence.

Equipment and Specifications

• S22 Ultra: Qualcomm SD 8 Gen 1/Exynos 2200, 8/12GB RAM, 128/256/512GB/1TB storage, 5000mAh battery.

All three Samsung Galaxy S22 devices are powered by either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor or the recently announced Exynos 2200 chipset, depending on the region. Qualcomm will be under the hood in the US and Exynos in the UK for several years.

The S22 and S22+ both come with 8GB RAM and 128 and 256GB storage options, while the S22 Ultra comes with 8 and 12GB RAM and 128GB storage options for the 8GB model, and 256GB, 512GB and 1TB for the 12GB model. Neither model offers microSD support.

In terms of battery capacity, the S22 has a 3700mAh battery and supports 25W fast charging, the S22+ has a 4500mAh battery and supports 45W charging, and the S22 Ultra has a 5000mAh battery and also supports 45W fast charging. The charger is not included in any box, only a USB-C to USB-C cable is offered.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+ have a triple rear camera, consisting of a 50-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and OIS, plus a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor with f/2.2 aperture and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens. f/2.4 aperture. The telephoto lens offers 3x optical zoom.

On the front, the S22 and S22+ have a 10-megapixel sensor with an f/2.2 aperture.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra has a quad rear camera setup consisting of a 108-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor with f/2.2 aperture, and two telephoto lenses, one of which is 10-megapixel. one with f/4.9 aperture and 10x zoom, the other with f/2.4 aperture and 3x zoom.

The front camera is also a step up from the standard Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ with a 40-megapixel lens that offers an f/2.2 aperture.

The result

The Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+ share the same design and features except for physical size, battery capacity and fast charging capabilities.

The S22 Ultra is the largest of the three devices and, at least on paper, the most capable in terms of camera. It also offers better screen resolution and a lower refresh rate, and has more RAM and storage options, as well as a larger-capacity battery. It also has a built-in S Pen that makes it even more different from the other two phones.

While it’s the clear winner in terms of features, you’re paying a price for the S22 Ultra, so consider which features are most important to you and assess whether they’re worth it. You may find that the standard Galaxy S22 models meet your needs and save you money.
