It has become a mythical crossing for cyclists and bicyclists since 1911, the year of the race’s first ascent, when only one runner reached the summit without setting foot on the ground. Galibiere can be approached from Savoy, via the Col du Télégraphe from Saint Jean-de-Maurienne or from the south via the Col du Lautaret. In both cases, the climb involves an ascent of more than 30 km. Since 1911, it has been run more than 70 times in the race, for example in Valloire or Briançon, with arrivals often judged at the foot of the descent. A century after the first ascent, in 2011, the summit finish was observed there for the first time. Over the years, thanks to technical progress in bicycles, Galibier has become accessible to cycling tourists. This is how the Galibier Challenge is now organized every year. The peloton of bicycles is inseparable from the march of cars, among them we find celebrities “SPORTS Directors“. His role emerged when the organizers of the competition changed the format of the competitions so that they were no longer run by individuals but by teams. The model of cars has clearly evolved over time, as has the way sports directors communicate with a particularly popular headset. His role is not just to smile back into the cyclists’ microphone or shout encouragement, but rather as a strategy facilitator and staff coordinator. The athletic director, often a former runner, is escorted by teammates in their cars, ready to intervene with any material, food or clothing problem.
